Western Blotting: Convenience has its sacrifices

:: Posted by American Biotechnologist on 09-14-2011

With the myriad of western blotting tools available to us such as precut membrane filter paper sandwiches and super-fast Trans-Blot Turbo Transfer Systems, most of us hardly remember the days of fidgeting with nitrocellulose rolls and prewetting PVDF membranes.

While I certainly appreciate the convenience offered by the latest technology, every once in a while I like to reminisce about the days of old. Yes, it was awkward working with nitrocellulose rolls, but oh what fun we had.

Rapid protein transfer in 3 minutes!

A time saving improvement to a technique that you already use every day in the lab. The Trans-Blot Turbo Transfer System from Bio-Rad has the following great features:

  • compact cassette design
  • transfer up to four mini gels or two midi gels simultaneously
  • cassettes are independently controlled so users can start transfers at different times with the same transfer protocol
  • re-usable and easy to clean platinum anode and stainless steel cathode
  • onboard software has rapid preset protocols that can also be customised or transfer conditions can be manually set and new protocols stored
