BioMarker research eBay style

:: Posted by American Biotechnologist on 12-19-2010

Earlier this month, Harvard University spinout GnuBio Inc. raised $3 million in equity offering which will eventually help it realize its dream to become the eBay of BioMarkers. According to Mass High Tech the company which operates out of Professor Dave Weitz’s Lab will join together millions of biologicial samples that are currently siloed at institutes around the world using an open-source platform.

The company’s model will be to sell sequencing hardware to institutes at a discount with the catch that after a certain time period has elapsed, researchers must give the samples to GnuBio for their open source database.
