I’ve always found it frustrating trying to explain the daily lab routine to my wife over the dinner table and so I’m always looking for articles and videos that helps explain the wonders of molecular biology to the masses. In the video below, Drs. Eric Green and Carla Easter from the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) demonstrate how to extract DNA from strawberries using everyday household items.
The video was part of the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C. held this past weekend .
More fun activities (such as how to Craft a DNA Bracelet and the Tree of Genetic Traits) can be found at http://www.genome.gov/activities/
