Exclusive Photos of the Day Einstein Died

:: Posted by American Biotechnologist on 03-14-2011

In honor of Albert Einstein’s birthday (March 14, 1879) we are reposting this post from last year. Hope you enjoy!

I’m not quite sure where our fascination with the lives of famous scientists comes from. Is it that we are star-stricken with their superior intellect or enamored by their achievements’? Perhaps we are hoping that through studying their lives we too can become as successful and as famous as them.

Whatever the case may be, as soon as I heard about Life Magazine’s exclusive publication of the “never before released photos” of the day Albert Einstein died I just had to see them. And they do contain some very interesting facts. For example, did you know that photographer Ralph Morse was able to gain access to Einstein’s Princeton office after his death by bribing the building’s superintendent with 1/5th of a bottle of scotch? Or that the pictures were never published, despite the sure revenue that publishing them would generate for Life magazine, at the family’s request and out of respect for their privacy (that would never happen today)?

Anyhow, whatever your reason for browsing these photos…enjoy! They are fun!
